The Heat is On!

“Now unto Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly more than all we ask or think, according to His power that is at work within us, unto Him be the glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.” Ephesians 3:20–21

The heat is on — literally and figuratively — here in Middle Georgia as fall tries its best to creep in. Our 90-plus-degree days, combined with the heat of our ovens, have kept the air-conditioning working overtime just to make baking somewhat bearable. Meanwhile, our entrepreneur to-do list is heating up too.

Along with preparing our Christmas offerings for the website, we’ve been busy working with our mountain partners and will continue through leaf season. We’re also gearing up for the Georgia National Fair (10/9–18), Ace of Gray Ladies Night (11/12), Christmas Made in the South – Macon (11/6-8), and Diamond in the Rust in Jacksonville, Florida (11/27–29).

Behind the scenes, we are working with contractors and sourcing additional ovens for a January 2027 kitchen flip. January is the best time for the project because it will require a complete shutdown of operations. When our little 800-square-foot barn became a bakery, we used the electrical outlets that were available. Today, we simply need more power and greater efficiency than the original space was designed to provide.

This update will also allow us to retire our commercial gas stove and make room for more baking ovens — another step toward growing the part of the business that has become our true niche: cheese wafers and shortbread cookies.

A Sweet Goodbye to Where we Started

As part of our equipment transition, we will be eliminating peanut brittle from our product line. Peanut brittle helped launch Cindy’s Bits and Pieces in 2014, and it will always be part of our story. Over the years, however, we have discovered that our strongest niche is cheese wafers and shortbread cookies. The brittle’s limited shelf life also makes it less practical as we continue to grow. We’re grateful for the product that helped get us started — and excited for what this next chapter makes possible.
